Confirmed from Upper Bidwell Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Sprawling park in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains featuring rock formations & more.
What runners say about Upper Bidwell Park
“Bidwell Park is absolutely gorgeous & not only a great place to take your dogs or go for a hike but it makes for fun photography as well!”
Upper park is the best place to go “outdoors” in Chico. You can golf on a very nice course, frisbee golf, shoot at the gun club, fish at horseshoe lake, hike monkey face, mountain bike, take your dog for a walk “off leash”. The best part of upper park id Bear Hole!!!
All I have to say is that Bidwell's upper park is just fantastic. Simply perfect. Having bike paths, trails for hiking, multiple swimming areas and just the beauty of being outdoors. So proud to say I've been taking a full dose of the outdoors regularly and have noticed that my it brings out my best self
Awesome to take your family and friends with on a good hike. Great adventure for adults on higher up trials to lower by the river for kids or just to get back to your car walk back from up top trials.
Hiked the Yahi Trail. Beautiful fall colors and temperatures are perfect this time of year. Kid friendly adventuresome hike for 8 year old. The trail is mostly flat and runs along the creek. Lots of places to meditate or have a picnic. We went back on the road which was not too bad given we saw only five cars.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
