Confirmed from Valley Forge National Historic Park River Trail Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Valley Forge National Historic Park River Trail Trailhead

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (65 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

Valley Forge is one of my personal favorite spots in PA. It offers 3,500 acres of beauty! Perfect for hiking, walking trails, picnics & catching the sunset!

★★★★★ — Camilla , Jun 2023

I walked the river trail in valley forge national park. It is a one way rock path that runs alongside the water. It's shades and breezy. The parking lot is limited and on dirt so today was muddy but not too bad. I'll bring my bike next time I visit and explore further.

★★★★★ — Karen , Mar 2022

The River Trail is 3 miles long and parallels the Schuylkill River. This is a very pleasant mostly shaded walk from Betzwood PA. To Pawlings road. The trail is crushed stone and dirt ,no hills. Bikes OK, plenty of parking on eather end

★★★★★ — James , Jul 2020

We love this trail. It's very friendly but no paved path. Good for hiking, running or biking. Goes along the river, and it's surrounded by trees. Good for hot and sunny days. If you bring your pet, be aware there are tons of ticks.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
