Confirmed from Wagtail Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Wagtail Trail

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (73 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 5 mentions

“Beautiful and the trail is a great little walk!”

🐕 dog-walking favorite 3 mentions

“However, my boyfriend and i took our dog on an evening walk there, and we both got destroyed by mosquitos, and in the past 24 hours we have found 8 tics on our pup.”

Dogs and I both loved it, my only complaint is that it is infested with ticks. Couldn't find the main creek at first, but after some exploring off the main trail I found it, it is not pictured below. Will go again.

The trails are great, BUT within 5 or 6 minutes, both of my dogs and my wife and I were covered in ticks, we removed 10-15 off of each dog and a half dozen off ourselves. Removed about 10 more total when we got home. Be VERY careful if you go. Otherwise we love this trail.

This is technically a dog park, but offers much more. The front of the park that faces the road is fenced off, which is convenient for the doggos and children alike. The field paths are mowed and flat. When you get to the backside the paths go into the woods, which are more hilly and will take you down to Darby Creek.

Tons of ticks but still one of our new favorites. We only saw 2 people in the 45 minutes we were there, which we loved! Cali had 5 ticks on her even after we sprayed her with tick resistant spray but they came off before latching into her fur. This was a great hike to take with your furry friend.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
