Confirmed from Walnut Canyon Reservoir's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

🌾 quiet & peaceful 5 mentions

A feat of engineering for locals to benefit from as a water source and for the public access trail around it! Great for taking a bike ride, or hike or workout along Periphery Road and the surrounding Oak Canyon.

A wonderful place to checkout during the early morning or just about sunset. A nice oasis from the busy life. A mostly flat walking trial around the reservoir with several seating areas scattered throughout the trail to enjoy the wonderful natural landscape. A drinking fountain is available along the trail.

1.7 miles of walking/running/biking path around beautiful Walnut Canyon Reservoir. Lots of flowers and plants in the area. I walked to the reservoir area via Oak Canyon Nature Center after 25 mins hiking in Heritage Trail. However I believe there should be other ways to access to the reservoir.

Great paved walking and bicycle path. Full lap around the reservoir is 1.7 miles. Great views of Robbers Roost, adjacent ridge, and nature center below.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

“I love this path around the reservoir because it’s around the corner from my house, has decent views and is generally clean.”
