Confirmed from Walnut Springs Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Walnut Springs Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (345 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 5 mentions

“The trail is well maintained, and I have always felt safe.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 11 mentions

“Beautiful scenery and lots of iron and metal sculptures and plenty of benches to sit and enjoy the park”

I have utilized the trail multiple times, and each time, it's a different experience. I absolutely enjoyed the trail extension from the library to Max Starke Park. This edition is a game changer. The trail is very diverse, with multiple locations throughout the trail to start.

Really nice short trail , has benches , put in “walnut springs parking lot” for parking.

★★★★★ — Deiondra , Aug 2024

We were taking a road trip from Houston to San Antonio and decided to stop at a park in the area for our kiddos to stretch their feet out and run a little bit. Little did we know we were about to encounter the most beautiful place in our trip! This is a little hidden gem.

We walked the trail between the library and the sushi space. The plants and foliage were great. Water was running at a trickle. Neat old bridge/steps.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says

  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • At the trailheadrestrooms — reported by runners
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
