Confirmed from Warrenton Branch Greenway's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Paved trail perfect for walks and exercise, plus a dog park where pups can roam.
What runners say about Warrenton Branch Greenway
“Its always well maintained and a great walk to help stay in shape and relax”
“Plenty of shady and sunny stretches and it's completely flat.”
This was an interesting and fun bike/ walk trail on an old spur track bed of the Southern Railway. Nicely memorialized Railroad memorabilia along a paved bike/ walk path. Nicely maintained and in downtown Warrenton VA. Including a recently uncovered old locomotive stone turntable.
Short 2.2 mile trail with lots of shade. Lots of nice improvements since the last time we hike this trail.
Really nice walking path. We had been meaning to check it out and it was more than we expected. Even though there's a mix of space you go through (see some backyards, some businesses, etc.) it's enough nature to have a good stroll.
Visiting in Warrenton for a family wedding on a nice September day, and decided to use some free time to walk on this paved trail. It's a pleasant and easy walk to stretch your legs.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
- At the trailheadparking, water — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
