Confirmed from Washington Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Washington Park
“Clean and all so relaxing to enjoy.”
“It turned out to be the ideal spot to hop out of the car, stretch our legs, and soak in a scene where the lighthouse, lake, and beach all came together in one stunning view.”
Love coming here to take pictures. Great place waters sports , Kiteboarding, Surfing & E-Foil to name a few. Accessible to everyone. Few communities meet up here. The peir is a must , walking down to lighthouse is fun, be safe and mindful of waves. Often a fisherman & kiteboaders worth talking to.
Large beautiful beach with lovely green and blue water. Great covered picnic area with tables. Parking is $15 for the day. Access allows you to get to the small zoo as well as the Sunset bar and grille. Be sure to walk the pier out to the light house. Excellent views.
As a local my opinion might be biased lol! I think Washington Park is one of the best places ever. It has year-round amazing views of a sunset over the lake and at certain times of the year it goes right over Chicago which is in view most of the time.
Absolutely beautiful place to walk, with stone benches. They are building a gazebo that will be a really nice addition. This park has everything for a fun family day!

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceBoardwalk — flat and scenic, and slick when wet, so watch your footing
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
