We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Watkins Glen State Park yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Such a beautiful hike. Being in a gorge like this is a one of a kind experience. Trails are excellently maintained and marked clearly. Staff at the visitor center were very helpful. The entire thing is under 1.5 miles, so you can explore all the trails and see everything this place has to offer in 1 day.

Visited Watkins Glen State Park from Ontario and was absolutely amazed by its beauty. The gorge is truly spectacular, with scenic pathways winding through towering rock walls, stunning waterfalls, and crystal-clear streams. Every turn offers another fantastic view and a great photo opportunity.

Very fun half day. It is about a 2.5 mile hike from bottom to top, and back. There are a ton of stairs, I think between 800-900, depending on which trails you take. I am fairly fit, walking the 2.5 miles with a little break at top was no problem, but my legs were sore for 2 days after because of stairs.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
