Confirmed from Wayne Avenue Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Wayne Avenue Trailhead

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (26 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 3 mentions

“Overall it was a beautiful walk in nature and for long stretches of time the only “civilization” I heard was the sound of a far off train.”

🪧 well-marked 4 mentions

“It was easy to follow and refreshing to be at.”

Beautiful fall scenery along the Chinkapin Trail. Lots of maple trees. Leaves do cover everything in the fall, so it’s easy to lose sight of the trail. Be careful!

A new walking trail with a separate bike trail. Entrance road is a bit rough as the park is not quite finished yet.

★★★★☆ — Karen , Sep 2020

Walked both trails. The green trail (Chinkapin Loop) is an easy 10-15 minute walk on mostly level ground with regular signage making it impossible to get lost. The first half of this trail runs along the border of the woods so you’ll see a building or two as you go, but the second half turns deep enough in to give you…

My new favorite mountain biking and hiking trail in Southeast Michigan. They've recently hired a company to rebuild the existing trails and are still in the process of adding new ones.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🌲 Natural surface / singletrack 2 mentions

“It was unfinished and mostly muddy but I walked it in 45-60 minutes.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessHours vary — hours are not posted for this trail, so check before an early or late run
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
