We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of West Side Recreational Trail yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about West Side Recreational Trail
The purist in me tries to snowshoe only when it makes a positive difference (i.e. more than a foot of snow on the ground), while the novelty-embracer in me seeks out every opportunity to break them out. The Lower Peninsula rarely gets deep enough snow to warrant snowshoes.
Really nice trail. Just on the outskirts of town. GPS is a little off, but drive a little further and look for the sign on the left.
Beautiful trail system, lots of rolling hills, trails, and mixed woods.
Trail conditions & character
“A 7-mile network of XC-ski and snowshoe trails traverse the hilly Menominee Drumlins and cedar swamps just west of town.”
“A beautiful snowy wonderland awaits inside, and it’s only accessible in the winter, and only with the right gear.”
