Confirmed from Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge is an amazing place to explore nature! We had a blast off-roading on the truck trail near the river—beautiful views and such a peaceful spot. The mature trails were great for hiking and spotting wildlife. It’s perfect for nature walks, birdwatching, or just getting some fresh air.

It is a lovely place, smaller than most but where the birds choose to come and rest on their journey South. We just missed them on our journey South, but enjoyed walking through the park and seeing the small local birds. The lodge has impressive displays of Florida animals and flora.

Came for the 2026 Festival of the Cranes and was not disappointed! This was my first experience at Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge, but not my last! Plenty of parking, plenty of trails, plenty of amenities, plenty of fun! All the staff were amazing and they have a cute gift shop! Can not recommend enough!

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
