Confirmed from White Rocks' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Kid-friendly hiking area featuring climbing opportunities and serene views.
What runners say about White Rocks
“Beautiful interior forest views, well marked trail, and plenty of streams.”
“Very respectful and peaceful ❤”
Excellent trailhead with parking for about a dozen vehicles. Trail map at the start of trail. Blue trail blazes the entire way to Bald Mountain. Beautiful interior forest views, well marked trail, and plenty of streams. The trail is quite rocky and muddy in some places but an excellent place to explore.
It's a great hike but we didn't expect it to be so long to the top and definitely shouldn't have started at 2:20pm because we got back by 7pm in the dark. Theres a lot of false peaks and the actual top of the mountain doesn't have an overlook.
I was happy to see such a well worn path! It's early in the season, so watch out for mud. Everything is in bloom, and the foliage is filling in! I didn't go very far. It's a steep grade and I had worked a full shift. I didn't have any water either, so it would have been unwise to push it.
Check weather before you go! Some wet spots along trail. It is like climbing the mountain up an old stream/river bed. There are some nice small waterfalls on the trail. The free expression tunnel is a real cool way to start and finish the trek. Hiking sticks can be useful on this trail.
Trail conditions & character
“The trail isn't in great shape for the first mile or so, but then it becomes much nicer, and the views at the outcroppings about 2.”
“The hike up gets pretty steep at some points and hiking boots are a must!”
“Local groups have done a lot of work recently to improve this trailhead, and it is getting better.”
“The trail is quite rocky and muddy in some places but an excellent place to explore.”

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
