Confirmed from Whitney Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Whitney Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (78 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 7 mentions

“Cute little park that is well maintained and has a good amount of space to play.”

🌳 shaded & cool 3 mentions

“Great little playground with all new equipment, benches for parents, and best of all, plenty of shade.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 6 mentions

“A quiet tucked away neighborhood park with lots of climbing equipment, swings, a basketball court, and field space.”

Love walking to this tucked away park with my grandsons. The playground has been updated but a water fountain would be nice! UPDATE - they now have a water fountain, the parking lot has been paved and there is a place you can plug in your phone (or whatever) to charge.

Great little neighborhood playground tucked away. Kind of run down and doesn’t get as much use as it otherwise might. Good for younger kids. I hear Wilkinsburg plans to make upgrades.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🐕 Dog-friendly 7 mentions

“Has a half basketball court, kids playground, picnic table, swings, and a baseball diamond where people play with their dogs.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms, water — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
