Confirmed from Woodland Hills Nature Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Woodland Hills Nature Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (336 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 4 mentions

“Came during peak fall season and the orange leaves were stunning.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 4 mentions

“It's a place to go to clear my mind, listen to the calm and soothing sounds of nature, see a deer, get in some exercise and really take in the beauty of the Michigan wilderness”

Is it not a bad nature trail in the suburbs. Not as big as heritage park but it has some small hill climbs and creek crossing that looks good during rainy season or winter. It is muddy after rain so wear proper shoes. Road noise from I696 is very loud, not sure how the turkey and ducks going to sleep 😴.

Lovely park with a great scenic trail. Several benches to take a moment and enjoy nature. The only reason for not getting 5 stars is the noise from the highway.

★★★★☆ — Matt , Jul 2017

A little more than a flat terrain nature park and a little lighter than a hike, this nature walk in suburbia is an accessible getaway. While you can hear 696 throughout your experience, if you make a point to stay present there’s a lot to experience and see (e.g. animals, flowers, trees, etc.).

What a lovely park in the middle of a city! No play area or playground equipment.... it's a big nature trail deep in the woods. It's very peaceful and secluded 💜 great for meditation and relaxation 💜 It is near an expressway, so you will hear traffic going by, but it can be tuned out, it's not obnoxiously loud....💜

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🌲 Natural surface / singletrack 6 mentions

“Most paths are dirt or rock— some paths not good for people with mobility issues at all, but an easy hour-ish jaunt for those who won’t get hurt stumbling on a hidden root or two”
