Confirmed from Ala Wai Community Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Ala Wai Community Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (707 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 4 mentions

“April 23-24 2026 I met the most beautiful C&C staff with Volunteers at the Ala wai center.”

🏃 great for running 2 mentions

“Great area to run and watch the surfers go out in the mornings, and watch the sun rise over the city scape.”

Along Ala Wait blvd. A quick 15 walk from any of the Waikiki beaches. Again, another place to get to early because it gets hard to distance once crowds arrive! Beautiful park, free entrance. Street parking. Lots of birds and chickens! Great view of canoeing and water activities.

★★★★★ — Bria , Dec 2021

It's pretty large from my understanding it goes from McCully Bridge along the ala wai down to the backside of Ioalani High School at the dog park. It has 2 public parking areas one off of Kapiolani and McCully the other at the end of University Ave.

★★★★☆ — Michael , Oct 2020

Great park to go walking, jogging, running, or exercising. Even bike riding, skateboarding, roller skating, etc. Big grass field to hang out or throw a party and there is a public restroom. It is only empty in the mornings, but is usually a medium to high traffic park, so it is pretty safe for the children.

★★★★★ — Robert , Jun 2022

A good park for walking or eating lunch good amount of parking unless baseball or soccer games then it's packed.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
