Confirmed from Appalachian Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Good for kids, this area features hiking trails with views of Greenwood Lake.
What runners say about Appalachian Trail
“T is one of the best scenic trails east coast has to offer and NY section of it is really good too.”
The A.T is one of the best scenic trails east coast has to offer and NY section of it is really good too. Unfortunately we went on a colder day so weren’t able to finish the hike to the Fitzgerald falls. But it’s a must go on a warmer day. Follow the white trail to get on the A.T.
Awesome trail to explore almost (2.5 hours)……… just be aware of snakes 🐍………. :)
When we first encountered the AT from the road, we thought, "this is it?" Small little unimpressive cow path. But not too far in, the trail was obviously manicured, with trail markers and stone steps built where steep climbs existed. The forest and the views are gorgeous. In the photo are trail markers.
Located in Warwick NY, this stretch of Appalachian trail offers wide views of the Hudson Valley and Catskills in two locations (Eastern Pinnacles and Cats Rock). You can take the trail to Cats Rock for a loop or go towards the shelter for a longer loop. The viewpoints require some rock crawls/scrambles.

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
