I really enjoy this hike. It's all uphill with some steep hills. Definitely go prepared. Start early, however I had great weather on my side. You Definitely get a workout and you have an amazing view the higher you go. I bet on a clear day I can see forever. This is one hike you should conquer at least once.
Great park, well. Maintained trails. Public restroom with flush toilets and running water. Picnic tables. Easy parking for 20 or so cars. Respect the neighborhood. This is next to the monastery in Sierra Madre.
Great hiking place, moderate to difficult. I did the Jones peak trail. The first two miles are fairly easy to do, despite being uphill. After the two miles, it just get harder, more steep and loose ground. Would not recommend for small children, saw people running.
One of my favorite hiking trails in the LA area starts here. There is a nice little park at the base of the trail where you can have a picnic or just take in the sights of the beautiful mountains and wildlife. The park is usually pretty quiet and clean.
