Confirmed from Mount Wilson Trail Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“Trail is easy to follow and well marked.”

This is an awesome trail for medium to high skill hikers. However, I brought my wife and ten year old son who are not hikers. They walked 3 miles up and back with no issues. It has beautiful views and no meters to park. The longest trail is 8.6 miles. Our dog was excited. Got to keep him on a leash.

Beautiful trail, easy with moderate grade. We go about 4 miles up and down. Beautiful canyon below, be careful escape can be difficult and hard even for experienced hikers. Lots of scenery and animals.

Bring excellent hiking shoes if you are going all the way up. It's a challenging hike with great views of the city. There's two places that the trail could have been better marked, but overall it's great trail.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
