Confirmed from Ball’s Bluff Regional Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Ball’s Bluff Regional Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (69 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🌾 quiet & peaceful 4 mentions

“Went on an overcast weekday and had a really peaceful experience.”

Took my cat out for a walk. First time hiking here; it was really great! So many bugs so make sure to bring bug repellent. Glad this park is within walking distance from my house!

20220404 I love hiking at this park. Not only it has so much history, there are also many trails throughout this park. The historic part of the park is not that big, but the trail network is big. There are trails near the parking lot, and to the right, left and back of the park.

Great trails for wandering around, with connections to neighboring trails along the Potomac River. For historical education, the interpretive trail signs are detailed and interesting, spaced at locations that allow an understanding of the fateful battle that occurred here.

Went today on a cool and breezy day perfect for hiking. These trails are some of my favorite I've been to. Lots of nice variation in foliage and views, mostly flat with small sections of modest elevation gain. Today the air smelled divine, a mix of "outside," earth, floral, and fruity. Really nice experience.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at Ball’s Bluff Regional Park

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
