Confirmed from Edwards Landing Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Edwards Landing Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (78 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 5 mentions

“Beautiful pavilion & park hidden at the back of a very nice residential neighborhood.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 3 mentions

“Beautiful peaceful setting along the Potomac.”

There's a small parking lot, port-a-potty, pavilion with several picnic tables, and hiking trails. The trails are dirt and there are roots poking though. I'd suggest wearing appropriate footwear and watching where you're going. I didn't go very far, so I can't say how strenuous the hike would be, nor how long.

Nice little entry behind a community. Quiet,.has covered seating area for picnic. Entry into the hiking along the river. Went to Balls bluff and back in about 90mins slow hike. Good technical areas, steep areas but not scary.

Fun hiking spot! If you want you can take the trail to see the Potomac river. When I went not many people there at all. I think I bumped into one other person. Very fun hike and I was very sore later.

Great pavilion for a nice picnic with some trails that head down to the Potomac if you are adventurous

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
