Confirmed from Bear Mountain State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“The trails are well-marked and range from easy walks along the river to more challenging hikes with rewarding panoramic views at the summit.”

A beautiful and fun place to spend the day. We started with a ride on the carousel, which was a nostalgic experience. From there, we walked past the inn and made our way to Hessian Lake. The loop around the lake is fairly short and offers peaceful views.

I love the park. The hiking is fantastic. The paths are great. The views are spectacular. I give it a 4 because the zoo is not necessary, and it’s a bit dated. I’d like to see a nice country store there with food and beverage options. The current concessions are a bit dated and unsatisfactory.

Had an amazing time at Bear Mountain State Park! The hike was a perfect mix of challenge and reward, with stunning views of the Hudson River once we reached the top. The park is well-maintained, and the atmosphere is peaceful and refreshing—great for a quick escape from city life.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
