Confirmed from Timp Torne & Jones Point Path Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“Beautiful trail, the first climb up going counter-clockwise is tough, but the rest of the hike is smooth sailing.”

🪧 well-marked 2 mentions

“Both are moderate to hard and not so clearly marked in the beginning.”

November 2, 2024... Missed the Foliage 😪 ... We hiked the Tim Torne, Dunderberg Loop started at Jones Point for 7.4 miles. It was an incredible hike... I would do it again, but on a peak time of Foliage, maybe 2nd week of October... I can imagine The Trails would have been so spectacular 😍 ✨️ The Best Trail So Far ...

This was a tough hike from the get go. The first few minutes are flat and breezy, then there's about an hour's worth of vertical climbing. Hiking shoes recommended. On a beautiful Saturday, I encountered a number of other hikers and dogs.

Free parking off rte 202. Walk along highway to trailhead. Good tough hike about 8 miles. Took us 6 hours. Views of Bear 🐻 mountain inn and NYC! Not too many hikers on a Saturday. We went counterclockwise wise.

Great trail to summit both Dunderberg and Bald Mountain in one 7-mile loop hike. You can use the NY State Park app to download Bear Mountain State Park’s map and see how which trails can be used to make this loop—it’s really easy.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🏞️ Scenic views 22 mentions

“Not an easy trail for sure, quite a bit of elevation, lots of roots and rocks, but nice views of the Hudson River and great colors even on a partly overcast day.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work

  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
