Confirmed from Big Pond Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Big Pond Trail

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (24 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 4 mentions

“Wide well maintained trail, dirt and rock, but much of the main trail is navigable with a stroller or wheelchair in dry weather.”

👟 good for all levels 2 mentions

“The trail is beautiful kept and great for all ages.”

Nice wide flat trail that was reasonably dry even after a lot of recent rain and some snow. A few of the low spots were muddy but we were able to get around them. A big tree fell directly onto the path at the north end, right at the turn back to the road, and we had to climb along the trunk to get past it.

Wide, easy, well-maintained trails. Very little elevation gain. It's about 2 miles long, at which point there's the option to take a .2 mi walk on the road back to the parking area or go back on the trail. Porta-potties at the parking area, as well as a small park with playground and picnic tables.

The trail is beautiful kept and great for all ages. My 18 month old navigated perfectly. There were huckleberries everywhere as well. We brought our dog and had a blast. Only thing is it is NOT a loop, so turn around when you feel your halfway point has been reached.

This trail is part of a larger system in McCormick Woods. Deer Park and the trails are reserved for residents and guests of McCormick Woods. Please be respectful of the local statutes. Leashed dogs are allowed on this trail. No bikes or motor vehicles. Olympic Otter

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🅿️ Trailhead parking 5 mentions

“Limited parking at the trailhead/playground but there are many kther access points if one lot is full.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
