Confirmed from Broad Creek Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Broad Creek Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (84 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 5 mentions

“That said there wasn't anyone else there on a beautiful Sunday afternoon which is rare.”

🪧 well-marked 6 mentions

“Not very clearly marked and the terrain is not super easy so dress accordingly.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 3 mentions

“The hike was more strenuous than expected and not easy to follow in spots, but it's peaceful.”

🐕 dog-walking favorite 4 mentions

“I used to enjoy walking my dog here while my son played sports at the high school… That is until I was told that I am not allowed to walk my dog in the park.”

Great place to hike near/in Annapolis! It’s the only place I’ve found anywhere nearby where you can actually hike - there are lovely trails that trace ridges above the creek and go down into marshy valleys. There are lots of places to explore. We hiked for two hours and did not go through the entire park.

I enjoyed a nice hike through the woods here. Trails were pretty well marked. There is a variety of difficulty with some wide, flat gravel trails and other rooted and steep trails.

★★★★★ — Kevin , Nov 2023

There are 2 entrances to the hiking trails. One is behind library headquarters, the other is behind the track at Annapolis high school. The trails are usually not very busy. Dogs are welcome on leash. That being said, we have run into unleashed dogs and have brought are own dog off leash.

★★★★☆ — Beth , Sep 2017

Brutal uphills and downhills for running. Red is a great dynamic single track. Very pretty nature. Free parking and no permit needed to enter the park. Some paths involve walking through some brush. I got a tick bite from hiking here, so make sure to wear long pants and bug spray.

★★★★★ — Eli , Jul 2024

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
