Confirmed from Brushy Peak Regional Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
This 1,833-acre nature preserve around Brushy Peak has scenic trails with grassland & wild flowers.
What runners say about Brushy Peak Regional Preserve
“Plenty of parking available, the trails were well maintained and easy to run/jog on.”
“Nice little Hike with the family and dogs, beautiful views, they have a restroom as well and parking lot, no water to wash hands, other than that, beautiful place.”
“Early in the morning is best as there is little shade to be found along the trails.”
Great hiking spot, beautiful park! There are beautiful views of Tri-Valley and Livermore Valley once you hike up a little bit, if you keep going, you can also see Sunol Peak, Mission Peak, and Mt. Allison in the distance.
The longest trail from start to finish is a little under 5 miles. I have taken my son with me since he was 5 although he complains a bit he gets it done 😂 I also have hiked it while 6 months pregnant so its doable. Depending on what way you go up its either a steep incline or gradual incline.
California is beautiful year-round, and my recent trip to Brushy Peak was really enjoyable. Just be prepared for some narrow lanes for about half a mile, and parking can be tight without extra spaces. The hiking trails start with a gradual incline of about 15%, leveling off at the top before heading back down.
One of my favorite regional parks, especially in spring. This is a great park for bird watching. In the morning, the birdsong is like listing to an orchestra warm up before a performance. There are are few trails to accommodate your level and time available.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms, water — reported by runners
