Confirmed from Buzzard's Roost's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Buzzard's Roost

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (264 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 5 mentions

“Buzzards Roost Nature Preserve has well maintained and marked trails.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 8 mentions

“Such a beautiful place for any level of hiker, and the 'Old Ranger' started our day off with some wonderful information and kind words!”

🪧 well-marked 2 mentions

“I found it easy to follow except the leaves made seeing the trail a challenge at times.”

There are only a few trails here, if you are only going to do one, do the red trail. It has the best overlooks, by far. Both trails are only a couple miles long, so most people should be able to get them both in.

Buzzard's Roost should be on your list for places to hike. The trails were not crowded, and 98% of the day, we didn't see anyone else hiking. Lots of wildlife from snakes to dragonflies to see. Ranger Bost was the best!

I've been to this nature preserve only this one time. It has some very fine views from this Southern hike. I want to come back in the fall when the leaves are close to their peak and do this again. I highly recommend this walk. If you bring youngsters along, keep them close as there are no barriers to keep you safe.

This place is absolutely amazing.. well marked trails and one of the best views in Ross county. The rangers and always near the parking area and quick to offer guidance, and a map. There are varying difficulty trails, so if you have children, or maybe someone who isn't quite as sporty, you can still enjoy..

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
