Confirmed from Calabasas Stairs' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Calabasas Stairs
“Otherwise, it's beautiful, and omg, the stairs will give you a killer workout.”
Hey peps! It’s a long time I don’t feel excited about something, but definitely CALABASAS HIDDEN STAIRS is the place you need to go with you want to try something new. 🥵Great workout if you like hiking or make your core look good. I took those pics last week on Thursday afternoon.
Look up Juan Bautista de Anza East Trailhead for parking, otherwise GPS directions will take you to gated communities. Short 15 min hike to the beginning of the Stairs, and a nice view at the top.
The hike to the stairs is relatively easy. Once you get to the stairs, it’s a little tougher, but you can just go at your own pace. There are some people running up and down them, some people are just walking them and some are just hanging out at the bottom, this is great for all ages and all levels of experience.
This hike is all about getting up the stairs and back. Great workout and nice views from the top.
Trail conditions & character
“Otherwise, it's beautiful, and omg, the stairs will give you a killer workout.”
“Now that parking is limited and most times you'll have to park up the hill, this is a solid 2 mile trek round-trip, even if you do 1 lap up the stairs.”

“I brought the little ones (3, 5, 10 and 11 years old) and even the dogs and all of them completed the hike and climb up the stairs!”

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
