Confirmed from Calico Basin Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Calico Basin Trail

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (393 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 12 mentions

“Calico Basin Trail is a stunning location just outside of Las Vegas—one of my absolute favorites for a quick hike, or for engagement and couples portraits!”

👟 good for all levels 5 mentions

“It is an easy hike; I recommend coming over here when it's raining or in the fall and winter, when the temperature is breezing and invigorating.”

All levels/experience hikers and climbers are welcome here. We brought our 2 and 4 yr olds and they loved climbing the rocks/boulders along the multiple trails. They also enjoyed watching the rock climbers traversing the rock faces. There is also a nice boardwalk to walk around the area.

Great hike! I didn’t have to pay for entry and the parking lot was very big, there were bathrooms and I visited during middle of December. There were not a lot of people and apparently lots of great climbing/bouldering places all along the way. Trails branch out many places, there’s much to explore.

Stunning! Easy access to this beautiful mountain and surrounding trails. Only 20 minutes from the strip. The climb up the mountain was nice with great areas to find your footing. Highly recommend this hike and over look. Just beautiful!

Calico Basin trail was an easy short hike, but provides great views of the red rocks. You can also watch climbers on the face of mountains. Definitely will come back while in Vegas.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
