Confirmed from Carmel Woods Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Carmel Woods Trail
I walk my dog here everyday. It's beautiful every season. I wouldn't recommend driving all the way here though just for this one trail. There's a lot of different trails through the forest but some are not labeled that well nor are they on the map, just look for the footprints.
Great hidden escape in Andover. It's small enough for a quick jaunt into the woods, but still easy to get turned around if you follow little paths as only some are marked. Be careful with kids and dogs as there is broken glass in some sections.
Nice quiet wooded space, for little hikes and fresh air. Be prepared for mosquitoes when they are in season.
I did .9 miles in 23 minutes. An easy to moderate trail that is somewhat marked. At this time of year the trail is covered with wet leaves and is slippery on the inclines/declines. No bugs at this time of the year. Not much to see, but is a nice, quick hike through the woods.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
