Confirmed from Cecil Cove Loop Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Cecil Cove Loop Trail

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (27 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 4 mentions

“There is a lot of poison ivy right now and also many beautiful wildflowers.”

🪧 well-marked 2 mentions

“It is a amazing trail, slippery on some areas but well marked.”

Very cool trail! You will see lots of water, caves/sinks, and old homesteads. Be prepared to get wet, as there are multiple creek crossings (no rocks to hop across — just straight-up wading). Thunder Canyon Falls is absolutely worth seeing. Take your time going up the canyon, as the trail can be quite slick.

★★★★★ — Noah , Dec 2019

It's a relatively short and easy hike. Until you get to the left turn after two or three water crossings, and it becomes a 7 or 8 difficulty. Nothing deadly but high risk of falling worth it to get to the end and see the waterfall. The road in is extremely washed.

★★★★★ — Alexander , Feb 2024

Great hike through the creek valley. You will have to cross the creek more than once. It can get knee deep or more if the water is up. Thunder Canyon is a must if you can handle the slippery sloped rock shelves and or walking through the channel of water to get there.

★★★★★ — Josh , Apr 2023

It is a very far drive out to the hike. We really enjoyed it. The view is at the end. There is not a lot of great views before that. We did have to cross water twice. The hike is definitely not for small kids or animals. You do have a path to follow. We didn’t feel like it was well marked out.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
