Confirmed from Charles E. Burchfield Nature & Art Center's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Park with a playground and trails, plus wading access to Buffalo Creek.
What runners say about Charles E. Burchfield Nature & Art Center
“Grounds are very well kept and sometimes there are some critters around to look at.”
“Nice nature center with easy walking trails and boardwalks through swampy areas.”
This is an excellent park. Plenty of trails for hiking/walking and it's very close to Buffalo Creek so you get beautiful views of the creek. You can even walk alongside it, but be careful if it's rainy or just had rain. It'll be a slippery excellent Park. Highly recommend.
A delightful park with displayed art work by Charles Burchfield along the trails. We always enjoy coming here to walk and enjoy the steam and hopping around the little island. Children love playing on the playground or in the colorful little stick house. Picnic tables are there for use. Pets are allowed on leashes.
I attended a PRISM training to observe and report invasive plants here. The facility is clean, cool, and inspiring. The trails add to the ambiance and peacefulness of the area, so much so that you don't notice the urban sprawl until leaving the grounds. Hike the trails and be informed by the placards.
Nice nature center with easy walking trails and boardwalks through swampy areas. Great place for kids as there is a decent playground
Trail conditions & character
“It's very flat, so anyone looking for a walk through nature but struggles with steps (or is even in a wheelchair) can manage most of the trails quite well!”
Plan your run at Charles E. Burchfield Nature & Art Center
The practical stuff
- AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
