Confirmed from Clinton Nature Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Clinton Nature Preserve

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (1,001 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 7 mentions

“I’d say some parts of the trail were moderate difficulty with some very uneven areas and (potentially) slippery rocks, but the trails are well maintained and wide.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 8 mentions

“This Nature Preserve is such a beautiful and peaceful place.”

🪧 well-marked 2 mentions

“It is incredibly well-marked, complete with clear maps and trail indicators (unlike Dog River Run Park, which is in the same county but really lacks good signs).”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 4 mentions

“This Nature Preserve is such a beautiful and peaceful place.”

This is a great spot for a hike! There are several trails to choose from, plus a track that goes around the playground. The trails are well maintained and the scenery is beautiful!

I love this park! It has walking trails, as well. It is very clean. I love that you can use the exercise equipment between your walk. Just don't forget the sanitizer (and cleaning cloth/paper towels). I have never seen the park crowded and the people I have seen were very friendly.

★★★★☆ — Sandra , Oct 2022

The playground is great. We love hiking the trails and then burning some extra energy out on the airplane themed playground. The playground area could use some loving, but it seems that they are getting there since the trails have been updated (bridges and clearing).

★★★★☆ — Jennifer , Oct 2022

This park is great for birthday parties and it has a playground for the kids. Now this park was my second de ja vu I had. I was led here for a second time because there was some fears I had to release. The first time I was here I got spooked.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🐕 Dog-friendly 6 mentions

“Clinton is also pet friendly, even for horses, and it's not unusual to see a few riders on the trails (fair warning: if you see horses, watch for droppings!”

🌲 Natural surface / singletrack 4 mentions

“If your horse is barefoot, I would recommend boots as it’s very rocky in spots and my horses were feeling the rocks.”

🪨 Crushed gravel / limestone 3 mentions

“Only thing I do not like is that the walking path is dirt and gravel, but as my husband pointed out, the dirt and gravel is better for walking than a paved trail.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
