Confirmed from Cumberland Island National Seashore's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Preserved seashore with a wilderness area, undeveloped beaches, historic sites & cultural ruins.
What runners say about Cumberland Island National Seashore
“Beautiful island to visit that has a lot of wildlife all over to explore!”
Beautiful place to check out, but make sure you've done your research 1. Either book your ferry trip before you get there or do it at the park visitor center. Arrive at least 30 minutes before the ferry leaves.
Cumberland Island National Seashore is quite literally a treasure. It has so many eras of history, wild horses, plenty of recreation opportunity, and still some private amenities too (if you have those pockets!). A ferry ride over will drop you off at one of two stops, and directly back in time.
Beautiful and peaceful. I was told when I arrived at the park that I would be the only one camping during my stay. (I camped there during the early part of December) Strange to feel as if I had the place to myself. The beach is incredible and there are a number of nice trails throughout the park.
Despite being Georgia natives and having lived here for over 70 years, this was our first trip to Cumberland Island. Like most people we took the 45 minute ferry ride over to the island departing at 9:00 a.m. We opted for the tour of the island in a van with the driver also being our guide.
Trail conditions & character
“Beautiful island to visit that has a lot of wildlife all over to explore!”
“The access to the beach can be challenging with the heat and humidity which I recommend taking the boardwalk to the beach instead of going through the dunes!”
“There are beach wheelchairs available to borrow at the Sea Camp Dock Ranger Station.”
“You'll barely have time to do the 4 mile loop at the bottom of the island 5.”
“Or you can camp if you like, with bathrooms, showers, water, and secluded campsites available.”
