Confirmed from Deer Grove West's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

I love this place and it's my favorite place to hike. They are redoing the path or anyone more gravel, which is taking up some of the few parking spot at this location. Maybe people over the weekend where parking on the side making it a one lane.

I have been running the yellow trail for the last month or so. It's beautiful AND a big workout for an old guy. it's about a 6 miles loop with nice elevation changes. It can be dicey when it gets wet, but that's part of the fun/high.

This forest preserve is part of a larger cluster in Palatine. There are several miles of trails that are mostly gravel or dirt. Several picnic spots exist and there is plenty of parking available. The Grove is fairly busy on the weekends with nice people to walk with. This is the Western entrance into the park.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
