(This review is for the more Northern launch by the dam. There are 2 kayak launches along this road) The launch itself is similar to other launch sites in the city of North Port. Drive down the dirt road all the way to the end, and you'll see the launch, and there are walking trails around.
Very nice kayak launch! Loved the upstream run...UNTIL the hydrilla got too thick to dig through (about 2 miles). We would have gone farther if we could have. No crowds. We'll go back an do the lower run another time. We did a short hike as well. Kinda boring but well tended. But there's plenty more to try out!
The launch is very nice. The creek gets narrow, and there are tree branches/logs you have to go under. It's not recommended for someone new to paddling in my opinion because of this. Nice scenic creek otherwise.
Cute little kayak, hiking and picnic area. I went there for kayak - note there is a dam under the walking bridge that stops you from kayaking to the Myakka river.
