Confirmed from Dirksen Nature Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Family park featuring a playground, a picnic area and walking paths.
What runners say about Dirksen Nature Park
“The playground is beautiful and always clean.”
“The forest trails are easy to navigate and it's so peaceful and beautiful!”
“Great sights, the sounds of running water and the smells of fresh flower buds letting me know spring has arrived.”
“Great park for kids to have a lot of space to he loud and wild, or simply be quiet and enjoy the wildlife near the forest and the stream along the trails.”
This park is great! The playground is beautiful and always clean. My kids love coming here to play and eat lunch. Wish that there was a path that connected the bridge behind the middle school with the paved path by the baseball field, or across the large field.
Dirkson park is my favorite park to take my 15 year old white Persian cat Snowball for a walk and to get out for awhile I've met some real nice people but he's old and slowing down and doesn't get around as much as he used to.
This park is absolutely amazing. My family went here and we were blown away at how cute the park was with the wood carvings to play on . The forest trails are easy to navigate and it's so peaceful and beautiful!I definitely recommend this park.
On a rainy day, the nature trails are very muddy and hard to navigate. The playground has intricately carved giant tree stumps that is sure to delight young and old alike.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
