Confirmed from Downybrook Nature Reserve West's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Downybrook Nature Reserve West
The trail at a few points seemed to turn into streams and head directly into the pond. It wasn't obvious how we were always supposed to get around these areas, it looked like hiking from the other direction, maybe, there might have been a more obvious way to get around these areas.
Well known for its birds. The trail is fun but in late May it was very muddy so wear waterproof hiking boots.
A local gem. You can tell a lot of love and care went into this trail, and continues to! Be mindful parts of the trail could be muddy or squishy after recent substantial rain and in the spring. Check out the Ontario Bays Initiative website for (typically) free events involving this trial
A hidden jewel in the Brownville area. Short hiking trails, plenty of bird watching to do, and several picnic tables at both sites for a lunch or dinner!

The practical stuff
- AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
