Confirmed from Dublin Hills Regional Open Space Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Dublin Hills Regional Open Space Preserve

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (223 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 11 mentions

“The path is gentle from one end to the other, with beautiful views of the rolling Dublin Hills and plenty of shaded sections along the creek.”

👟 good for all levels 2 mentions

“Even though it’s an easy trail, it’s important to bring water, a light snack, and sunscreen, especially on warm days.”

Lovely place to park your car for a hike on Calaveras Ridge Regional Trail. They have restroom as well near this staging area. On the trail there aren't any trees but the scinic views from top are super awesome. The trail gets very steep very quickly so be prepared for a good hike.

Beautiful trail in West Dublin. It is not hard. Some sections are moderately steep, but it’s flat and bit of rolling hills.

★★★★★ — Shirish , Feb 2023

Donlon Loop had some great views of Dublin and the surrounding area. Looking forward to returning when the sky is clear

★★★★★ — Edward , Mar 2023

We did half the hike. My three kids and my wife and I enjoyed the rolling hills. We also took our dog which like the hike. The road was pretty clear and the views were really nice. We took the Calaveras Ridge Regional Trail. There was no tree cover or shade so I would not recommend this hike during the summer.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
