Confirmed from Eagle Rock's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Excellent beginners hike with STUNNING views of the southern Bay Area. There is ample free parking at the base of the trail. Restrooms and picnic, BBQ areas as well. Park rangers provide good security here. Details regarding the hike and viewpoint follow: It’s approximately 3/4 of a mile uphill with a steep climb.

We hiked the Eagle rock view point over the thanksgiving break walking all the way from the alum rock first parking lot to the hill top. If you happen to park at the eagle rock parking lot, it is an easy 3/4 mile hike. We had a lot of fun hiking up with our 3 and 9 year olds.

Parks and Rec held a sunset hike. We saw a scorpion and Jupiter was visible. The staff escorting us up to eagle rock were knowledgeable and lovely. Looking forward to more sunset hikes through the park! Wear mosquito repellant!! I got so bit up! Wear hiking shoes if possible lots of gravel and dry loose dirt.

One of the vista points inside Alum Rock Park. Not too far away from the park entrance. I’d say it’s an easy hike. Saw quite a few Turkey Vultures while I was there. On my way up, also saw a few California Scrub Jays. Views of San Jose are of course nice.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
