Confirmed from Elworthy Staging Area, Las Trampas Regional Wilderness' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Elworthy Staging Area, Las Trampas Regional Wilderness

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (28 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 4 mentions

“Thank you Almighty for Creating us, for giving us such beautiful views, when life is trying to bring us down!”

Bloody steep, get in shape! Open spaces, best views of Mount Diablo to the east and the bay from the ridge. You may see livestock grazing or calving. Red hawks are common, deer roaming around. New developments creeping around and up closer and closer to the boundaries of the preserve.

★★★★☆ — G , Sep 2023

Really fantastic park with challenging inclines and awesome views of Mt. Diablo. You might be a little confused as you drive to the stating area as you have to drive through a little subdivision. Don't be afraid! The parking lot is indeed behind all those houses.

★★★★★ — Joselyn , Jan 2018

2 blocks west of San Ramon Valley Blvd at the South end of Danville. Access to south end of Last Trampas via either a very steep dirt road or a narrow trail that winds up the ridge. No toilets at parking area. Wear sturdy boots and bring a camera.

★★★★☆ — James , Mar 2017

Amazing walk after a long day at work. Little steep though. Doors closes at 7:00 pm not 8:00 pm. Very limited parking spot uphill.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🅿️ Trailhead parking 11 mentions

“It has its own parking but the road up is narrow and curvy.”
