Confirmed from Escanaba Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Waterfront park featuring a sandy beach and a playground for kids.
What runners say about Escanaba Park
“Enjoy a mile walk along the waters edge to the red lighthouse and relax at the beautiful and sandy beach.”
Memorial park, not a playground, but lots for kids to see. Pier Peddler ice cream is right there, as well as Halaula ice cream. Take a walk and enjoy watching the boats and sunset. Great place to observe the fireworks which are launched from the Musical Fountain area.
Spend the day having a great time at Escanaba Park and nearby attractions. Read up on the coast guard history. Enjoy pronto pups, ice cream, or the local Butchs Beach Burritos.
Very nice park for walking along the Grand River, watching boats coming and going to Lake Michigan, watching people too. Has benches along the way and even some occasional shade. Good transition from state park beach/campground to city river front. Was there for the annual Coast Guard celebration which was fantastic.
I’ve walked around and thought this park countless times as a kid/teen, but never really paid attention to what it meant or stood for. What a great memorial, and in the middle of where everyone commonly walks, to make more people aware of the people who have given their lives in service to keeping us safe.

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfaceBoardwalk — flat and scenic, and slick when wet, so watch your footing
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
