Confirmed from Grand Haven State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

🌾 quiet & peaceful 4 mentions

“Very relaxing and peaceful in the winter”

It is a beautiful place where everything is good. The scenery is very good with Lake Michigan in the background, and there is very fine sand. It is good for swimming and a great place to bring children for a picnic. It is a very satisfying place for camping.

Very large State Park with an expansive beach-front, picnic areas, as well as a large campground area you can reserve. There are also free beach volleyball nets to use, a public bathroom, and playground. Visitors can walk on the dyke, which has two lighthouses, but these are not open to the public.

Summer beach at it’s best! Large beach with plenty of area to explore. Concessions available. Walk the newly renovated pier. Great sights to see on Lake Michigan. Free parking on road if you can find it. Had no problem finding parking during the week, weekends busy.

I highly recommend this campground. It is right on lake Michigan. Awesome views, beach. It's is a short walk up town which has lots of dinning options, shopping and entertainment. Great place for anyone!

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessHours vary — hours are not posted for this trail, so check before an early or late run
  • SurfaceBoardwalk — flat and scenic, and slick when wet, so watch your footing
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
