Confirmed from Falls Lake Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Falls Lake Trail

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (72 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 4 mentions

“Very well maintained like most of the trails around Falls Lake.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 4 mentions

“Overall, a fantastic and scenic experience that I’d highly recommend.”

Visiting Raleigh on a trip and stopped here to get some steps in. The trail is easy to follow and beautiful nature. It is difficult in that there are many roots that protrude out the ground for almost the entirety so beware of that.

So many trails and you can't go wrong with any of them. It's a matter how far you want to go.

★★★★★ — Cindy , Jul 2022

Heavily wooded trail along the lake. A few homes are in sight and occasionally can hear people in their yard, but pretty quiet otherwise. There a few spots to stop and sit by the water and have a snack. You can park at either end of this trail.

Question, is the trail paved? My bike is a road bike so I have been wondering if I can ride it on this trail only if the trail is paved. I have done lake Crabtree and tobacco trail so I am looking for another longer paved trail that I can do on a road bike. Anybody got answers should please let me know, thanks

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🏞️ Scenic views 8 mentions

“Wonderful, relaxing trails along the lake, with a spectacular view waiting at the endpoint.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessHours vary — hours are not posted for this trail, so check before an early or late run
  • SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
