Confirmed from Flagg Mountain's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Flagg Mountain

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (205 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 3 mentions

“There is an outhouse kept clean of vermin(spider webs and such), photography, nature, history of Pinhoti Trail & CCC park builds back around 1930s.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 15 mentions

“Even though the weather was overcast, there were still plenty of great views from the top of the mountain.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 3 mentions

“Plan a quiet thoughtful getaway by yourself, or bring your family and enjoy a picnic on Flagg Mountain and all it's beauty!”

This is a relatively small Alabama State Park that was neglected for too long. Alabama seems to finally be ready and committed to get it back up and running. Visitors should expect a somewhat primitive experience with some degree of noise and inconvenience while the necessary repairs and updates take place.

If you like to hike, this is a great State Forest to visit. We really enjoyed our hike. This is an interesting area with the history and trails here. We plan to visit more and hike all of the Pinhoti.

Very remote, but beautiful. Nice views--the last 1,000 foot mountain in the App Mountain chain. Interesting Civilian Conservation Corps tower and cabins. Good hiking trails.

Love Flagg Mountain.. Plenty of trails for hiking... The cabins are nice... They let you stay in the cabins for $25/ night. There is electricity, but no water or plumbing. There's an outhouse to use. Be sure to bring a bed roll, bedding, water, and food... Like camping, but in a cabin with lights.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
