Confirmed from Pinhoti Trail - Southern Terminus' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Pinhoti Trail - Southern Terminus
“The hike to Flagg Mountain is short but leads through a beautiful forest and a valley that makes appetite to just continue walking until you reach Baxter.”
This will be a detailed review. We started the pinhoti trail and went 7.8 miles to county road 56 . This is the best marked trail I've ever hiked with two sign in books along the way and a nice new shelter. There are a few benches along the trail as well as some monuments marking the trail.
The last mountain over 1000' and the start of the pinhoti trail. Dirt road to TH is easily drivable. (I did it in a Honda Civic!). Shelter with picnic table is nice for after the hike. Trail is really pretty and easy. Nice creek overlook about a mile in.
We departed from this trailhead but we're cut short by a controlled burn. The smoke was too much but the view at the top of Flagg Mountain was nice. The "road" leading to the trailhead is possible to traverse but it's not recommended for cars or 2wd vehicles imo. Not much parking at the trailhead itself.
Very nice trailhead. A pavilion with benches, picnic tables, and maps are new and are a great place to relax and get information about the trail.
Trail conditions & character
“The CCC road leading to the trailhead is a dirt road which had a few muddy and rutted spots so it is best travelled with a high-clearance vehicle.”
