Confirmed from Forest Reserve At Smallwood's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Forest Reserve At Smallwood

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (120 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 6 mentions

“Doesn't get better or more relaxing than this beautiful, peaceful place 😊.”

I have had the pleasure of meeting up with a number of people who walk their dogs there and have enjoyed their conversations and at times walks on the many trails at the Reserve. They have been attentive to their dogs and the environment, friendly and outgoing.

★★★★★ — Mike , Jan 2022

Mike and I spend hours at this place. We also spend a lot of time removing fallen limbs and some of the trees to keep the paths clear. The trails are generally easy to moderate and a great adventure for families and dogs. People are pleasant and from all over the country and world.

★★★★★ — Lisa , Nov 2024

Nice area with innovative exercise equipment located around the park area by the parking lot. Some nice wooded trails along the marsh and river. Only comment is that they should have a trail map posted since trail is not obvious.

★★★★★ — Jim , Aug 2020

Great trails they are under construction now and the little park for kids is nice and great area. Worth checking out if you don't want to hike a hard trail or uphill

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
