Confirmed from Hatchery Road Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Hatchery Road Trailhead
This trailhead off Cold Spring Road offers access to the gated Hatchery Road that extends down to the Neversink River. Blazed red, Hatchery Road is a double track dirt road that runs along Eden Brook and past an abandoned fish hatchery. The route is suitable for hiking, mountain biking and XC skiing.
Not gonna lie about this one either. It’s a beautiful but tough. You walk down an abandoned road (once cobble??) and all along the way you can see remains of a the former fish hatchery. Rows of tiered pools and lochs(??) for managing the fish? A few larger ponds that are returning to nature. It’s all very cool.
Trail conditions & character
“The new connector trail allows you to do a loop hike.”

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
