Confirmed from Frijoles Trailhead (La Tierra Trails)'s own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Well-marked, fun-filled locale for hiking and biking and equestrian sports, with jumps for all skill levels.
What runners say about Frijoles Trailhead (La Tierra Trails)
“Pleasant, well-marked trails through the rolling, high-desert alluvium just west of Santa Fe.”
I run, hike and enjoy the 17 miles of trails offered in the La Tierra trail system. It’s a great place to come with my dog, and the views of the surrounding mountains are stunning.
The trails are very beginner friendly, just a bit challenging because of all the loose rock and some sandy spots. The dirt jumps are great though. Jumps and features for all skill levels.
Decent trailhead that's not well marked. Very little incline, but easy to slightly moderate trail.
Awesome bring you bike and helmet, first aid kit maybe a next of kin. This place rocks for all skill levels. There is a center section that states enter at you own risk. This is due to wicked or gnarly hills, jumps and.obstacles in this section. There are other easier sections and moderate areas.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
