Confirmed from La Tierra Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about La Tierra Trailhead

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (28 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🪧 well-marked 2 mentions

“Wonderful hiking trails that are well marked with maps and trail markers at every turn.”

What an awesome feature so close to town! Exactly what you want for dessert trail runs. Their are enough trails to keep yourself entertained for years. We visited La Tierra several times, it was never crowded and we were able to enjoy lots of wildlife.

★★★★★ — M. , Apr 2017

Well maintained trail system with awesome views and interesting places to hike. Not too crowded during the week and easy to find parking. Trails are shared with mountain bikers and equestrians, but I rarely see either one when I'm there.

★★★★★ — Maria , Dec 2023

A really fun trail system. Great for an after work mountain bike ride or an easy stroll with the dogo (on leash required). Lots of easily accessible trail heads. The mountain biking trails are slowly and fast, and a great jump park for those into that.

★★★★★ — Will , Apr 2023

Wonderful hiking trails that are well marked with maps and trail markers at every turn. Great for a half day hike or shorter. Lots of parking at most of the trail heads. Terrain is easy to moderate.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

“I also walk my dogs here and everyone is super chill and easy going about the mix if bikes, people, and perros.”

Plan your run at La Tierra Trailhead

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
