We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Girty's Woods yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Girty's Woods
I found a pile of abandon car tires and rolled them down a hill and they went boing boing and it was funny
Came out to trim back vegetation. There are more trail improvements planned for the future (dependant on availability of volunteers). Some rough sections of sidehill still need improvement. Most of the marked trail is clear of vegetation.
This is a nice plot of land that’s protected and available for activities like walking. When I visited, the trails were pretty muddy and uphill, but it was still enjoyable. There are some views of downtown Pittsburgh, though nothing too spectacular. I do wish parking were easier and more straightforward.
Beautiful spot. Excited for more trail projects and planting and for this space to be protected forever. Essential storm water retention area to reduce flooding impact in nearby communities like Millvale.
Trail conditions & character
“Great addition to the area, and a place where you can get lost just outside of and with views of the city.”
